Thefts, threatening behavior, and violations of personal modesty are among the serious allegations now directed against a group of men residing at the asylum center Center Skærbæk in Southern Jutland. Local residents in Skærbæk are expressing increasing unease about being out alone due to repeated incidents involving these men, who primarily shelter Ukrainian refugees.
Nina, a long-time resident of the town, shared her experiences with 365nyt.dk, stating that she has encountered several unsettling incidents. Two weeks ago, while she was home alone with her children, she noticed a man entering her garage after propping his bicycle against her house’s wall. He asked for money for cigarettes and didn’t leave until Nina stepped outside with her dog. The following day, the same man was seen outside her home, staring through her windows until Nina’s boyfriend confronted him.
Nina is not the only one with troubling experiences. Several citizens have shared similar stories in a local Facebook group. Since mid-July, about 15 new residents have moved into Center Skærbæk, and many of these unfortunate incidents have occurred within the last two weeks.
The local supermarket, 365discount, has also felt the impact of these new arrivals. A manager from the store reported that they have experienced repeated thefts and aggressive behavior when denying requests for free items. Men from the center have even pursued some of the store’s young employees in their free time and attempted to break into a young worker’s scooter.
Niels Bøgskov Frederiksen, the manager of Center Skærbæk, stated that they are collaborating with both the Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen) and the South and Southern Jutland Police (Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi) regarding the matter. Tønder Municipality is also aware of the issue, but the police have yet to comment on the allegations.
