A 29-year-old man has been convicted of endorsing terrorism and sentenced to nine months of unconditional imprisonment. The Copenhagen City Court (Københavns Byret) determined that the man, identified as Sam Mohabbat, demonstrated expressions of sympathy that supported terrorism during a demonstration at Red Square (Den Røde Plads) in Copenhagen, where he spoke about Hamas’ attacks on Israel.
This ruling follows comments made by Mohabbat during his speech on October 10, 2023, which the court found to be inciting terror acts. Specifically, he urged attendees to remember the events and to communicate the message to future generations.
Based on his statements and his connections to the Islamic organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, the court found sufficient evidence to conclude that his actions amounted to a glorification of terrorism. This resulted in a nine-month prison sentence without the possibility of parole.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of expressing support for terrorist actions, and the sentencing framework indicates a strong intent to combat all forms of terror-related propaganda.
