New data from the Statens Serum Institut (SSI), or the Danish State Serum Institute, indicates a continued decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in Denmark. According to the institute’s latest update, the concentration of the coronavirus in wastewater is decreasing, suggesting that the infection rates are on the decline.
The SSI informs that the amount of COVID-19 detected in the feces of infected individuals allows wastewater analyses to serve as an accurate indicator of the virus’s spread within the population. The most recent analyses for week 31 show that the levels of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater are lower than in the previous week, although they remain at a “medium level.”
The ongoing decline in COVID-19 cases and wastewater concentration brings hope that the spread of the virus is becoming more manageable. Wastewater monitoring plays a crucial role in providing a realistic picture of the situation and assessing the effectiveness of continued protective measures.
