Copenhagen City Court is expected to make a decision on Wednesday regarding a 39-year-old man from Poland, who is accused of assaulting Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The prosecutor is seeking a four-month prison sentence and deportation of the defendant. The incident occurred on June 7 at Kultorvet, a public square in Copenhagen, where the Prime Minister was reportedly struck on the shoulder.
The case also involves several instances of sexual offenses, including exposing himself to random women and groping a woman at Nørreport Station, a central railway and metro station in Copenhagen. Special prosecutor Anders Larsson emphasized the lack of respect for others’ boundaries and feelings in his closing remarks, but also described the actions as not particularly severe.
The accused Polish man has lived in Denmark since 2019 with his family, yet he has struggled to adhere to the law and has been penalized 22 times for minor offenses such as shoplifting. Evidence in the case against the Prime Minister is primarily supported by testimonies from her bodyguards.
The court will now consider the requested punishment and the possibility of deporting the 39-year-old Polish man.
