The controversial Danish politician Rasmus Paludan is facing a trial in Sweden, where he has been charged with incitement against a group of people. According to the Swedish Prosecutor’s Office (Åklagarmyndigheten), sufficient evidence has been found to bring charges against Paludan. Despite the charges, the politician was unaware of the case until contacted by the media.
Paludan commented on the situation, stating, “I have not even been informed that I am being prosecuted. Since I have not seen the indictment, I cannot comment on it,” he expressed to the Danish media outlet B.T.
Prosecutor Adrien Combier-Hogg from the Swedish Prosecutor’s Office explained in a press release: “My assessment is that there are sufficient grounds to bring charges, and now the district court will handle the case.”
Rasmus Paludan, founder of the political party Hard Line (Stram Kurs), has made headlines in both Denmark and Sweden with his provocative demonstrations, which have included burning copies of the Quran, a holy book in Islam. One such demonstration took place in Malmö on April 16, 2022, and it is in this context that the current charges have been brought against him.
