Two men have admitted their involvement in organized smuggling of cannabis (hash) from Germany to Denmark. At the Court in Aarhus, a 41-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the smuggling and possession of approximately 900 kilograms of hash. The man confessed to having played a central role in the trafficking of cannabis between 2020 and 2024, according to the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK).
According to the indictment, the 41-year-old and his accomplice used encrypted phones for their communications. This was confirmed by the case prosecutor, Rikke Spøhr Schmit, who emphasized that the investigation documented the use of encrypted communication to plan the smuggling of large quantities of cannabis.
“The trade in cannabis has generated significant income for the organization. It is satisfactory that the court has not only imposed a severe prison sentence but also confiscated various assets, which the NSK had seized,” stated Rikke Spøhr Schmit in a news release.
During the arrest of the 41-year-old, police confiscated over a quarter of a million Danish kroner (approximately $38,000), designer furniture, and a Rolex watch. Additionally, a 35-year-old man confessed to being involved in the organized trade and was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for smuggling 207 kilograms of hash into Denmark.
The two men were arrested during a coordinated operation in June, where they, along with two other men, were apprehended in Aarhus and Copenhagen. Several locations were searched during the operation, and the two other men remain in custody. The 35-year-old has received his sentence, while the 41-year-old has requested time to consider his options.
