Swedish Gangs Recruit Youth for Violent Crimes in Denmark

In Sweden, gang environments have discovered a new and dangerous method for carrying out criminal activities in Denmark: using encrypted chat services such as Telegram, Swedish gangs are recruiting young, often vulnerable individuals to commit murder and other serious tasks on Danish soil. Swedish journalist and gang expert, Diamant Salihu, presented several alarming job advertisements from the criminal milieu during a broadcast on the Swedish television channel SVT last Thursday. In these advertisements, large sums of money are offered to young people for carrying out shootings and attacks in Denmark.

The job advertisements, which Salihu obtained from credible sources within the criminal community, offer up to 500,000 Swedish kronor (approximately 45,000 USD) for undertaking these tasks. One advertisement states: “Shooters needed for Denmark. Half a million can be earned (500k). We provide everything – the apartment, travel, and more. Only serious inquiries – we are not amateurs.”

Diamant Salihu warns that these advertisements should not be underestimated. According to his sources, the advertisements are authentic, demonstrating that gangs are actively seeking shooters on social media. In many cases, the recruited young individuals are already vulnerable, for instance, because they have been placed in institutional care. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that the youths often do not receive the promised payments after completing the tasks. Many end up being arrested.

According to the Danish National Special Crime Unit (NSK), there is a connection between shootings in Copenhagen and conflicts between Danish and Swedish criminal groups. Police Inspector Torben Svarrer has stated that even Danish criminals are hiring young Swedes to commit dangerous criminal acts. The prices for these tasks start at 200,000 Danish kroner (approximately 28,000 USD), and the perpetrators are often under 18 years of age.

NSK’s latest conflict assessment confirms a violent conflict involving the Danish gang Loyal to Familia and supporting groups such as Youngz BGP, as well as a Swedish-Danish grouping. The ongoing conflict has resulted in several violent incidents involving firearms and explosives.

Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard has reported that since April, Danish police have registered 25 incidents where Danish criminals have hired young Swedes. Among the known cases are several shooting incidents at Blågårds Plads and Frederiksberg, as well as a grenade attack on a kiosk at Hans Knudsens Plads in Copenhagen.

This development underscores a concerning and escalating level of youth involvement in serious crime between the two countries. Observations from the police and the new alarming information provided by Diamant Salihu shed light on a dangerous trend that demands increased attention and action.
