Mid and West Zealand Police (Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi) have received their first report from a veterinarian regarding the injured horse, Hungry Heart Firfod, which was discovered on Slimmingevej in Ringsted. According to Police Commissioner Michael Sander, the veterinarian’s examination indicates that the horse’s injuries were intentionally inflicted. Sander emphasizes that it is still too early in the investigation to identify any potential suspects.
On Monday, August 5, the horse’s owner, Mette Brandt, was shocked to find her horse bleeding. Her veterinarian immediately suspected that someone had deliberately cut the horse’s genitals with a sharp tool. However, police have not yet determined if this incident is connected to a similar case reported in Faxe Municipality, where three horses were found with severe injuries to their genitals on August 1.
Michael Sander has confirmed that there is an informal collaboration with South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police (Sydsjællands og Lolland-Falsters Politi) regarding these cases. He also notes that the investigation is being handled by experienced detectives. “The officer working on this case has previously dealt with a similar case last year, so she is familiar with police procedures,” Sander explains.
The case Sander refers to involved a horse in Holbæk that had to be euthanized due to extensive injuries on its hindquarters. In that instance, a 41-year-old man was charged by the police.
For Mette Brandt, this violent act has resulted in a significant change in her daily life, and she no longer feels safe leaving her horses unattended.
