The Danish-Swedish border control is set to intensify, according to Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard from the Social Democrats (Socialdemokratiet). The aim of the increased surveillance is to enhance police presence on trains arriving from Sweden and to provide law enforcement with additional resources for monitoring the border using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, which scan vehicle license plates.
This initiative is part of the police’s broader efforts to curb incidents of crime involving young Swedish men. According to police and the Ministry of Justice (Justitsministeriet), the objective of this operation is also to tighten investigations into individuals who recruit Swedes for criminal activities in Denmark.
Furthermore, there are plans for Danish officers to be deployed to Sweden, and vice versa, to improve collaboration between the police forces of the two countries.
