Copenhagen Police Intensify Efforts After Nørrebro Shooting Death

The police are working intensively following a shooting murder in Nørrebro

Copenhagen has recently experienced an increase in violent crimes involving young Swedish perpetrators. The murder of a 43-year-old man on Hans Tavsens Gade in Nørrebro on Thursday afternoon has particularly triggered an extensive police operation. The 43-year-old man was shot by a young male suspect, who then fled the scene on a bicycle. A passing woman was also injured during the incident.

Copenhagen Police (Københavns Politi) have since received numerous tips from the public, which are now being thoroughly investigated. Deputy Police Inspector Lasse Michelsen stated that the police have significantly increased their presence in specific areas and have conducted a greater number of stop-and-search operations as part of their intensified investigation.

Since April, there have been 25 incidents involving young Swedish individuals suspected of serious crimes, either resulting in arrests or involvement in the cases. The police have called for reinforcements from surrounding police districts to manage the pressure, which includes measures such as increased patrolling on trains from Sweden and intensified collaboration between Danish and Swedish police forces.

Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard has emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the vital role of the police in curbing this “insane behavior.” He has also confirmed that several measures have been implemented to ensure citizens’ safety, including increased visibility of officers in public spaces.

The police continue their extensive efforts in following up on the many public inquiries, but as of Saturday morning, no arrests had been made in the Nørrebro murder case. Several media outlets have reported that the victim was a known figure within the gang environment, with connections to the banned gang Loyal To Familia.

In other cases, there have been multiple arrests of young Swedes, some of whom are under the age of 18. For example, a 16-year-old boy was arrested in April in Copenhagen when he attempted to receive a firearm. According to reports from the Danish news agency Ritzau, at least 11 individuals have been placed in pre-trial detention among the 25 incidents, including two 24-year-olds who were detained for throwing a hand grenade at a kiosk.

The police continue their investigative work in the hope of bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety of citizens in the capital.
