In a rapidly progressing investigation, the Copenhagen Police have made an arrest in connection with the deadly shooting incident that occurred on Thursday in the Nørrebro district. A suspected perpetrator, a male Danish citizen, was arrested on Saturday, as reported by the police on the social media platform X.
The tragic event took place on Thursday afternoon on Hans Tavsens Gade, where a 43-year-old man was shot and killed. In the same incident, a female bystander was also injured. Following the shooting, the assailant fled on a bicycle towards Griffenfeldtsgade, according to police statements.
The investigation has been accelerated by numerous tips from the public, according to Deputy Police Inspector Lasse Michelsen. Many leads and witness accounts have played a significant role in achieving a swift arrest. It remains unclear whether the judge will choose to remand the arrested man, with a decision expected on Saturday.
The case is linked to gang activity, as the victim reportedly had ties to the now-banned gang Loyal To Familia (LTF). Authorities suggest that an ongoing conflict between LTF and a Swedish-Danish group may have acted as a catalyst for a recent series of violent incidents, including Thursday’s homicide.
In direct response to the killing and other related violent crimes, police have established two stop-and-search zones in the capital. These zones are intended to curb the recent wave of violence, during which Swedish criminals have allegedly been hired to commit crimes on Danish territory.
The police characterize the arrest as the result of a “comprehensive investigation” and emphasize the cooperation between the public and law enforcement as a critical factor in the swift resolution of the case.
