Jessica Pegula Advances to Quarterfinals at National Bank Open

– Defending champion Jessica Pegula secured her place in the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open on Friday, defeating qualifier Ashlyn Krueger with scores of 6-2, 6-4 under windy conditions. The third-seeded Pegula, hailing from Buffalo, New York, took advantage of Krueger’s nine double faults to emerge victorious in the match.

In last year’s final in Montreal, Pegula triumphed over Liudmila Samsonova, and she will now attempt to defend her title. In the evening session, top-seeded player Diana Shnaider, who is seeded 14th, faced off against Pegula, while the second seed, Aryna Sabalenka, played against Katie Boulter.

In earlier matches, Taylor Townsend showcased her strength by defeating the fourth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko decisively with scores of 6-2, 6-1. Additionally, Emma Navarro, seeded eighth, overcame the 11th seed Marta Kostyuk with close scores of 7-5, 7-5.

Amanda Anisimova also advanced after the 10th-seeded Anna Kalinskaya from Russia had to withdraw due to dizziness. Anisimova had won the first set 6-2.

The tournament continues with more exciting matches, and tennis fans are looking forward to the upcoming contests in this prestigious event.
