Motorists can expect traffic challenges on Danish highways and rural roads this Sunday, particularly on the E45 highway and routes from Jutland towards the capital region. The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) warns that traffic will be heavy between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM, when many return home from holiday travels.
Martin Rytoft from the Traffic Center of the Danish Road Directorate advises travelers to consider leaving later in the afternoon or in the evening to avoid congestion and extended travel times. The E45 is especially prone to delays, particularly on the stretch from the Danish-German border to the Aarhus area, where road construction has reduced the available road capacity. “We are expanding the highway to additional lanes, which is putting extra pressure on the roads,” explains Martin Rytoft.
Additionally, the Funen Motorway (Fynske Motorvej) and the West Motorway (Vestmotorvejen) on Zealand (Sjælland) are expected to experience heavy traffic, as well as areas around Sjællands Odde and major roads near popular summer house regions.
To stay informed about traffic conditions, the Danish Road Directorate recommends checking their traffic maps, which are continuously updated with information about accidents and congestion. Travelers can also keep up to date through P4’s traffic reports, which can assist in finding alternative routes if necessary.
