Nordsjællands Police has concluded its investigation into a tragic explosion that occurred in a townhome in Helsinge, Denmark, in April this year, without being able to determine a precise cause. The explosion claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl in July and also injured three other girls and a 44-year-old woman.
The incident took place on April 11, and authorities initially suspected that the explosion might have been triggered by aerosol cans of dry shampoo combined with the use of a lighter. Deputy Police Inspector Anne Nielsen stated that despite extensive technical examinations and witness interviews, the police have been unable to conclude the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion. “The technical investigations and witness statements have neither confirmed nor disproven this theory, nor have any other plausible explanations for the explosion been found,” she added.
Dry shampoo is a hair care product that cleans hair without the use of water and is often packaged in aerosol spray form, similar to hairspray. Despite this previous assumption regarding the cause, police are now compelled to cease their investigation as further inquiries have not provided any clarity on the incident.
In the wake of the explosion, a neighbor aided one of the injured girls, who had suffered burns, by helping her down from the roof of the house and providing first aid in the form of a cooling bath. This neighbor’s heroic efforts, along with those of two other citizens who assisted the injured, have been recognized, and they have been nominated for a commendation for their rescue efforts.
