“Violent Assault in Skærbæk Linked to Controversial Asylum Center”

A violent assault in front of a Netto supermarket in Skærbæk has connections to the controversial asylum center, Center Skærbæk. According to information from the South and South Jutland Police (Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi), a man was attacked by two other men at the end of July. The perpetrators, both men aged 46 and 50, were identified through video footage and subsequently arrested, but they have now been released.

New information reveals that both the victim and the two attackers are Ukrainian refugees, all residing at the asylum center. The incident is thus classified as an internal conflict among the center’s residents. The police emphasize that the case is still under investigation and will not comment further on any potential legal repercussions.

Following the assault, several critical stories about Center Skærbæk have surfaced, leading to increased concern among the local residents of Skærbæk. Anonymous individuals have disclosed feelings of insecurity, and some shop owners have reported repeated attempts at theft by asylum seekers. The principal of Skærbæk Real School (Skærbæk Realskole) has also felt compelled to appoint additional playground supervisors to ensure the safety of students during break times.

The South and South Jutland Police are working closely with the management of the asylum center and plan to engage with residents to improve the situation. Police Inspector Henrik Thrane Jensen confirmed that they have received several citizen inquiries regarding uncomfortable experiences but cannot comment on specific cases due to confidentiality obligations.

In light of the growing unrest, Tønder Municipality is hosting a town hall meeting on August 14 to discuss the issues and hear residents’ concerns.
