A craftsman has been charged with negligent handling of fire following a serious blaze that broke out at a swimming pool in Aalborg, Denmark, early Tuesday morning. Christian Tilsted, the duty officer from North Jutland Police (Nordjyllands Politi), has confirmed to local media that the fire originated during roof work.
During the roofing operations, something went wrong which resulted in a rapidly spreading fire. According to Nordjyske, a regional media outlet, both carpenters and roofers were working at the site, but details regarding the specific tasks of the craftsman facing charges have not yet been disclosed. The craftsman has been charged under fire safety legislation.
The fire triggered a siren alert and an emergency notice for surrounding areas, particularly around Samsøgade in Aalborg. Residents on the streets of Bornholmsgade, Fynsgade, Lollandsgade, and Vendsysselgade were advised to remain indoors due to the smoke development.
By 11:00 AM on Tuesday, the fire department had the situation under control. No individuals were seriously injured, and there were no occupants in the swimming pool at the time of the fire. While North Jutland Emergency Services (Nordjyllands Beredskab) continued their efforts at the scene until early evening, the police had exited the area earlier in the day.
The fire was reported at 08:23 AM, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway to determine the precise circumstances and assess any further implications for the parties involved.
