A tradesperson has been charged by the Northern Jutland Police (Nordjyllands Politi) for negligence in handling fire following a blaze at the swimming pool on Samsøgade in Aalborg early Tuesday morning.
Police duty officer Christian Tilsted reported that the fire started during roofing work, where something went wrong in the process of laying the roof, which led to a rapid spread of the flames.
Aalborg Swimming Club (Aalborg Svømmeklub), which utilizes the swimming facility, has confirmed that the building was empty when the fire broke out. Club chairman John Larsen stated that no one was present for training at that time.
The fire has been described as both very intense and extensive by operations leader Niels Eltzholtz.
