Early in the morning on August 5, firefighters were called to an unusual scene in Yonkers, a city near New York. A burning shopping cart near the Oak Street Bridge had captured attention, and once the flames were extinguished, the cart revealed a grim discovery. Inside the charred shopping cart, firefighters found a body, which immediately prompted police intervention. Subsequent investigations revealed that the victim had been dismembered, with both hands and teeth removed prior to the placement of the body in the cart. Authorities believe that the victim was intentionally set on fire.
The shock of the incident deepened when police traced the murder back to a five-story building in Longwood, a neighborhood in the Bronx. Surveillance footage showed two men transporting a heavy object in a shopping cart, leading officers to an apartment filled with alarming findings. In the freezer, a severed part of the victim’s leg was discovered, while his hands had been placed in a slow cooker filled with bleach. Additionally, officers found drugs and a firearm in the residence.
A resident of the building, interviewed by Eyewitness News, reported hearing suspicious noises, as if someone was dragging something heavy down the stairs. She also recounted hearing a man hurriedly urging another to move faster. This information has become a crucial part of the police investigation, which has led to the identification of a potential suspect. However, no arrests have been made in connection to the case so far.
Residents of New York are deeply shaken by the incident, with one woman from Longwood telling CBS New York that she feels less safe in the city and frequently looks over her shoulder when she goes out.
The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed, and police continue their efforts to clarify the details surrounding this brutal murder.
