Seven children went missing in a single day at Lakolk Beach on Rømø, prompting multiple responses from lifeguards affiliated with TrygFonden Coastal Lifeguards last Tuesday. According to Coastal Lifeguard Chief Anders Myrhøj, this incident highlights the importance of maintaining constant supervision over children at the beach. “With many people on the beach, children can quickly disappear. Therefore, put down the newspaper and your phone, and focus on the children,” Myrhøj advises.
Fortunately, the situation ended well this time, as all the children were found safe and sound. Reports indicate that two of the children were last seen near the water’s edge, emphasizing the need for vigilant supervision. “Never lose sight of the children,” Myrhøj adds.
TrygFonden Coastal Lifeguards also remind beachgoers that they are approaching the last week of staffed lifeguard towers on Danish beaches, which will close after Wednesday, August 21. If favorable weather continues, this will require additional precautions. “Agree on a meeting spot if you get separated, write your mobile number on the children’s arms, and tell them to ask an adult to call you if they get lost,” recommends Myrhøj.
Additionally, it is important to note that the Harbor Baths (Havnebadene) at Fisketorvet and Islands Brygge in Copenhagen, as well as the harbor bath at Aarhus Ø, will remain open until August 31.
