On Tuesday evening and Wednesday, residents of Jutland and the western side of Funen can expect unstable weather, including possible thunderstorms, hail, and localized heavy rain. According to the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), there is a significant risk of severe weather conditions affecting various areas from Tuesday at 6 PM until the same time on Wednesday.
DMI’s warning service indicates that the forecast applies to the entirety of Jutland as well as the municipalities of Middelfart, Nordfyn, Odense, and Assens on Funen. Additionally, the islands of Læsø and Samsø may also experience intense rainfall, as will much of the Little Belt region (Lillebælt) between Jutland and Funen. Local areas could face up to 25 millimeters of rain within just 30 minutes.
Meteorologist Klaus Larsen from DMI explains that the forecasted heavy rain is not unusual for this time of year. The autumn season is often characterized by clashes between warm, humid air and cooler air masses from the Atlantic Ocean, which can lead to the formation of powerful rain systems. The current instability follows a period of high pressure and good weather that dominated the weekend and Monday. The anticipated weather fronts sweeping across the country will bring clouds and rain, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms.
Just a week ago, certain parts of Jutland and Funen were already affected by heavy rainfall. Among the most impacted areas were Skive, Herning, and Bøjden, which experienced substantial precipitation over a short period.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay vigilant regarding weather updates and to take the necessary precautions to prepare for the potentially severe rain and thunderstorms.
