A 39-year-old man from Turkey was stopped on Friday evening at the border crossing near Sæd, where customs officials discovered approximately 1,350 illegal puff bars in his personal vehicle. According to South and South Jutland Police (Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi), the man has been charged with smuggling these illegal e-cigarettes.
The man admitted to the offense and has been prosecuted under a regulation that came into effect on July 1 of this year, which prohibits the possession, purchase, and importation of large quantities of puff bars. This law was enacted to combat the illegal market and ensure that the product does not harm the health of children and young people.
Puff bars, which are known for their sweet flavors and high nicotine content, can be particularly harmful to young individuals, according to the Danish Safety Authority (Sikkerhedsstyrelsen). Nicotine can cause lasting damage to the brains of young people, whose brains are still developing, and it is highly addictive.
In Denmark, it is permitted to import and possess puff bars as long as the number does not exceed ten. With 1,350 puff bars in his vehicle, the 39-year-old man significantly exceeded this limit and can therefore expect to receive a fine as a consequence of his infraction.
