A tragic incident occurred on a bus near Nørrebro Station shortly before midnight on February 7, where a 31-year-old Georgian man was assaulted and killed. The victim was first attacked with laughing gas and then stabbed in the chest with a knife, which ultimately cost him his life.
A 20-year-old man has now been charged with causing death through violence as well as illegal possession of a knife. The prosecution believes that the 20-year-old was behind the fatal attack. The knife, which, according to the indictment, was the presumed murder weapon, measured 12 centimeters (approximately 4.7 inches).
The unfortunate event took place while bus line 5C was stopped at a stop on Nørrebrogade around 11:45 PM. After the stabbing, the 20-year-old fled the country. However, he was quickly located and arrested in Germany a few days later. In April, he was extradited to Denmark and taken into custody.
Although the charge against the 20-year-old is not classified as murder but rather as causing death through violence—a charge that typically carries a lighter sentence—the prosecution takes the case seriously. This case has been categorized as a jury case, which means that a prison sentence of at least six years is required if he is found guilty. However, it remains unclear when the trial will take place, as the case has not yet been scheduled. The accused’s response to the charges is also still unknown.
