In light of the increasingly intense gang warfare in Copenhagen, the Danish People’s Party (Dansk Folkeparti) is now calling for greater transparency and information from both the police and the government. Peter Kofod, spokesperson for the Danish People’s Party, stated that the public needs to understand the scale and nature of the violent clashes occurring in the city. His remarks come after yet another young Swedish individual was charged in Copenhagen with possession of a hand grenade.
According to police assessments, the ongoing conflict involves the notorious street gang Loyal to Familia (LTF) and an unnamed criminal organization. The latest development includes the tragic shooting death of a 43-year-old man in Nørrebro, which police believe is linked to gang-related disputes. The unstable situation has been further complicated by the involvement of criminals from Sweden’s underworld, including a well-known Swedish gang leader nicknamed ‘Jordgubben’ or ‘Strawberry.’
Peter Kofod has expressed frustration over the limited information being shared regarding the Swedish connection. He argues that both citizens and politicians are not receiving enough insight into the seriousness of the situation. “I would like to see the police more proactively communicate what is going on around us,” Kofod told B.T., a Danish tabloid. He also suggests increased border controls at the Danish-Swedish border as a necessity to prevent further criminal infiltration into Denmark.
As of now, the Copenhagen Police have declined to comment on Kofod’s statements or his call for enhanced border control. The situation in Copenhagen continues to be untenable, and the population appears to be caught in an escalating spiral of violence while waiting for further action from the authorities.
