Sweden Confirms First Case of Mpox Virus

Sweden has confirmed its first case of mpox, a viral infection that spreads through close contact and is associated with a more severe variant of the disease. Health and Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed announced the news during a press conference on Thursday.

“We have also confirmed this afternoon that we have one case in Sweden of the more serious type of mpox, known as Clade I,” stated Forssmed.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years on Wednesday, following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that has spread to other countries.

We will continue to provide updates on the situation.
