Denmark’s Olympic athletes will be honored at a reception held at Fredensborg Palace. King Frederik and Queen Mary will open the doors to Fredensborg Palace to welcome Danish Olympians to a special reception on September 12 in the Orangery, part of the palace’s beautiful herb garden. The event aims to recognize and celebrate the athletes’ participation in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
Not only athletes but also their coaches, officials, and other representatives have been invited to the reception. Both King Frederik and Queen Mary followed the Olympic Games closely this summer, with multiple visits to Paris to support Danish participants. Queen Mary spent several days in Versailles watching the Danish equestrian dressage team compete, while King Frederik attended numerous badminton matches, closely following both triumphs and disappointments.
The badminton duo Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup impressed in the men’s doubles semifinals but ultimately faced defeat against a Taiwanese pair. The King was present as Viktor Axelsen secured Denmark an Olympic gold medal in badminton by defeating Thailand’s Kunlavut in the final.
When the Danish men’s handball team faced Germany in the Olympic final, the royal couple was joined by their son, Crown Prince Christian. Together with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, they watched the thrilling match, where Denmark triumphed and secured the gold medal.
This upcoming reception will mark a fitting conclusion to an exciting Olympic summer, during which Denmark’s athletes delivered impressive performances and created many memorable moments.
