Inger Støjberg, leader of the Denmark Democrats (Danmarksdemokraterne), has publicly expressed her support for Alex Vanopslagh of the Liberal Alliance (Liberal Alliance) in his call for the Venstre party to return to the blue bloc. Støjberg believes that Venstre’s association with the Social Democrats’ (Socialdemokratiet) recent pension proposal should be rejected.
During the Denmark Democrats’ summer group meeting at Bandholm Beach Hotel on Lolland, Støjberg emphasized the importance of Venstre rediscovering its place within the blue family of political parties. She stated that this realization is something Venstre must arrive at independently, but she hopes they will make this decision soon.
Vanopslagh has written an open letter to both Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (of Venstre) and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (leader of the Moderates), urging them to pursue fiscal responsibility, particularly regarding the Social Democrats’ proposal to alter the retirement age. This proposal has raised concerns among economists. The Social Democrats suggest raising the retirement age to 70 by 2040, after which they would negotiate a new pension model. This initiative could have significant implications for the state’s economy.
Støjberg has called the Social Democrats’ proposal “untrustworthy” and hopes that Venstre will withdraw from the governing coalition known as the SVM government (consisting of Socialdemokratiet, Venstre, and Moderaterne). She points out that both value-based policies and economic policies largely unite the blue parties.
Regarding the Moderates and Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Støjberg expressed skepticism. She finds Rasmussen politically difficult to categorize, noting uncertainty about whether he aligns with blue, red, or purple ideologies. Nonetheless, Støjberg underscored that Venstre belongs in the blue bloc and that her party would support a blue prime ministerial candidate. She concluded by referencing the ambiguous political stance of the Moderates and emphasized her focus on securing blue leadership.
