A serious traffic accident occurred in Aarhus on Thursday, resulting in the death of a 32-year-old female cyclist and the subsequent arrest of a 31-year-old male driver. The driver will appear in a preliminary court hearing on Friday at the Court in Aarhus, where the prosecution is seeking to keep him in custody.
The accident took place at 4:06 PM at Chr. Filtenborgs Plads, located near Strandvejen in central Aarhus. According to the police, the driver failed to notice the female cyclist while making a right turn onto the bike lane. The driver, who was behind the wheel of a van, is suspected of being under the influence of amphetamines during the incident and has been charged with drug driving and involuntary manslaughter.
Despite efforts to provide assistance, the woman was declared dead at the scene by a doctor. The police have informed the victim’s relatives about the tragic event. Following standard procedures for serious traffic accidents, a traffic investigator was called to closely examine the accident site. The investigator is tasked with determining whether speeding occurred or if braking took place.
The 31-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and subsequently tested positive for amphetamines at the police station. As a result, the prosecution will request to extend his detention for an additional three days during the preliminary hearing, pending the results of a blood test that will determine if the driver was indeed under the influence at the time of the accident.
It is still unclear how the driver intends to respond to the charges against him.
