The leader of the Liberal Alliance (Liberal Alliance), Alex Vanopslagh, has called on Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Troels Lund Poulsen to withdraw from their collaboration with Mette Frederiksen and the Social Democrats (Socialdemokratiet). He believes it is time for a fresh start for Denmark and prefers that Venstre (the Liberal Party) and the Moderates (Moderaterne) return to the blue bloc, which refers to the center-right political coalition in Denmark.
In an open letter shared on Facebook, Vanopslagh expressed disappointment over the Social Democrats’ recent proposal to gradually raise the retirement age, which he views as a sign of a lack of willingness to implement reforms. He emphasizes in the letter that the government cooperation with the Social Democrats has not produced the desired outcomes, particularly due to the influence of the party.
Vanopslagh argues that the Social Democrats’ proposal undermines the ambitious welfare reform initiated in 2006, questioning the party’s ability to prioritize fiscal responsibility. He advocates for tax cuts and a more modern pension system, which he believes requires greater courage and accountability than what he thinks Mette Frederiksen can deliver.
He concludes by expressing hope for future collaboration with Venstre and the Moderates.
