Prise increases and poor weather have driven Norwegian tourists away from Denmark this summer. According to a report from Statistics Denmark (Danmarks Statistik), the number of Norwegian holiday bookings in Danish summer houses has fallen by a staggering 33 percent in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
Experts point to economic factors as a significant reason why Norwegians are opting against Denmark as a holiday destination. The weak Norwegian krone makes it more expensive for Norwegians to vacation in Denmark. Audun Pettersen, the head of the business organization Virke, stated, “The krone is very weak, which makes Denmark quite expensive for many Norwegians.”
Åsa Grahn, a lecturer in tourism management, supports this assessment. She explains that the weak Swedish krona prompts many Norwegians to believe that Denmark has become too expensive. Additionally, disappointing weather in Norway has led many to seek warmer destinations like Spain and Greece instead of Denmark.
In summary, there are strong indications that the combination of higher costs and poor weather has significantly influenced the holiday habits of Norwegians, resulting in fewer bookings in Danish summer houses this summer.
