Rikke Tinghøj, 28, felt a chilling fear when she unexpectedly noticed a shadow on her wall. There was only a meter (about three feet) separating her from a hooded figure outside the window of her ground floor apartment. She does not know who this person is, but she is aware that other women in the town of Herning have reported similar experiences. TV Midtvest, a regional news outlet, has covered several incidents involving a suspicious man wandering around and looking into windows.

For Rikke, the encounter occurred on a June night while she was casually looking at her phone. Suddenly, she heard rustling outside her window. Initially, she convinced herself that it was just a bird; however, two days later, she spotted the same dark-clad figure again—this time, there was no doubt. Rikke was paralyzed with fear, could barely breathe, and ultimately fled to the bathroom, where there are no windows.

Despite the shock of the incident, Rikke is determined not to move. “That would be letting him win. And he shouldn’t win,” she states. Since the encounter, she has installed window film and security cameras, which have provided some peace of mind, though the feeling of insecurity lingers.

Several other women in the area have had similar experiences, and Rikke has stayed in touch with an acquaintance who has also encountered the same unsettling situation. They share information and support one another during this troubling time. The Mid and West Jutland Police (Midt- og Vestjyllands Politi) have received multiple reports regarding this matter but have yet to disclose the total number of complaints they have received.
