Danish party presents ambitious 2030 plan focusing on children and green transition

The Radical Party (De Radikale) has unveiled an ambitious plan for 2030, focusing on the welfare of children and green transformation. With a new economic agenda, the party aims to enhance the well-being of children and young people while ensuring significant investments in green initiatives leading up to 2030. The party asserts that older demographics in society receive a disproportionate share of resources, which adversely affects the opportunities and well-being of the younger generation.

During a meeting held at Egelund Castle, located north of Hillerød, party leadership proposed allocating 15 billion Danish kroner (approximately $2.3 billion USD) annually for what they term a “child boost” (børneløft). This initiative intends to improve the country’s daycare facilities by hiring more well-trained educators and providing healthy, green school meals for all public school students.

“We want to ensure that there is school food available in every public school in the country,” stated Samira Nawa, the party’s finance spokesperson. She believes this initiative will particularly benefit vulnerable children and alleviate the morning rush for many families.

Additionally, the Radical Party plans to channel 10 billion kroner annually toward green investments and the elimination of certain taxes as part of their targeted climate efforts. To finance these initiatives, the party proposes to gradually phase out early retirement schemes and the right to early pension, referred to as the Arne Pension in Denmark.

“Many seniors are fit and healthy, yet they have retired under one of the three schemes. There are numerous experiences and skills from which the labor market is missing out,” Samira Nawa emphasized, underlining the need for a better utilization of the workforce’s resources.

Despite the controversial suggestions, the Radical Party’s political leader, Martin Lidegaard, has not ruled out the possibility of collaboration with the Social Democrats (Socialdemokratiet), even if the Arne Pension remains in place. “The only absolute I hold is that I am not absolute,” he remarked.

This plan is the second of its kind from the Radical Party, following their first economic 2030 plan presented two years ago. In addition to national measures, the party also seeks to increase Denmark’s contributions to climate and development aid to 3 billion kroner annually starting in 2030. In the long term, the Radical Party aims to raise development aid from 0.7 percent to 1.0 percent of gross national income.

The Radical Party’s new planning reflects their ongoing efforts to create a balanced and sustainable future, giving a significantly higher priority to both children and the environment.
