Denmark has recently announced its 20th aid package to Ukraine, which includes additional support of approximately 783 million Danish kroner (about 113 million USD). According to a press release from the Ministry of Defence (Forsvarsministeriet), the funds are primarily earmarked for new military equipment. This announcement follows a meeting of the Foreign Policy Committee (Det Udenrigspolitiske Nævn) in the Danish Parliament (Folketinget).
“It is essential that we continue our support for Ukraine so they can defend themselves effectively,” stated Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen from the Moderates (Venstre). He emphasized that the aid package has been tailored to Ukraine’s specific needs, both in the short term and for the long run. However, details regarding the specific contents of the package remain confidential for security reasons.
The funding comes from the Ukraine Fund, which has allocated nearly 65 billion Danish kroner (approximately 9.5 billion USD) for military support to Ukraine for the period of 2023-2028. Of this amount, over 46 billion Danish kroner (around 6.7 billion USD) has already been earmarked for various donations and investments.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen from the Moderates (Moderaterne) highlights Denmark’s significant role in supporting Ukraine. “With this 20th aid package, we are once again providing critical support in the form of military equipment that Ukraine desperately needs in the fight against Russian aggression,” says Løkke.
