Frederikssund Municipality has decided to initiate an investigation following the disappearance of a three-year-old boy from his daycare center on Ventevej last Monday. The boy was found by a vigilant citizen in a nearby forest after being missing for approximately three hours.
Trine Venbjerg, head of the Center for Children and School in the municipality, stated in a written response that the incident has prompted a series of actions. First and foremost, the municipality’s property department will inspect and potentially repair the fence surrounding the daycare center to ensure it prevents similar incidents in the future.
Additionally, the municipality, along with the staff, will review the sequence of events to understand how the boy was able to leave the facility without supervision. This will also involve an assessment of the existing safety procedures in all municipal daycare facilities to help avoid similar occurrences in the future.
On the day of the incident, a significant search operation was quickly organized. This involved a drone equipped with a thermal camera, police dogs, a helicopter, and several volunteers who intermittently searched for the missing boy.
Crisis support was also offered to both the boy’s family and the staff at the daycare center on that day. The municipality has chosen not to provide specifics regarding the exact points that the investigation will cover.
