The Temu store has received a serious warning from the Danish Consumer Council Tænk following a thorough investigation of 38 of its products. A significant 30 of these products received failing grades, with children’s items particularly problematic; 11 out of 15 did not meet safety standards. Temu, a Chinese e-commerce platform, has been criticized for products such as toys, sunscreens, electronics, and cleaning agents that do not comply with European requirements.
The Danish Consumer Council Tænk employed four experts to assess the products, revealing serious flaws that could pose risks, especially for children. Major concerns regarding children’s products included small parts that could cause choking hazards and long strings that could lead to accidents. “It’s very sad, and it confirms the warning we’ve previously made: You should not buy children’s products on Temu,” stated Helen Amundsen, a senior advisor at the Consumer Council Tænk.
The investigation also found that several products had confusing labeling, and four chargers tested failed the high-voltage test. Additional tests of a surveillance camera and a doorbell showed that these items did not function properly. Three cleaning agents received failing grades because they resembled toys or candy, lacked child safety features, and did not provide necessary warnings or information about their content.
All six tested sunscreens contained suspected endocrine disruptors. The only product that passed without any notes was a palette of nine sparkling eyeshadows.
In a written response, Temu stated that the products that received failing grades from the Consumer Council Tænk have been removed from their inventory as a precautionary measure while undergoing a thorough inspection.
