Darius Visser has achieved a remarkable feat by scoring 39 runs in a single over, setting a new record for men’s Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket. This impressive performance helped Samoa secure a 10-run victory over Vanuatu in a regional qualifying match for the 2026 Cricket World Cup.
Visser concluded the match with a total of 132 runs off 62 balls. When Vanuatu’s bowler, Nalin Nipiko, stepped up to bowl the 15th over, Visser was sitting at 46 runs. During this over, the Samoan batsman showed his prowess by hitting six balls out of the park while also cashing in on three no-balls.
The bowler managed to deliver a dot ball on the fifth ball, but followed it up with two no-balls. The second no-ball was particularly lucrative for the 28-year-old Visser, who struck it for a six. In total, Visser managed to hit 14 sixes and five fours during the match.
The previous record for the most runs scored in a single T20 International over was held by India’s Yuvraj Singh, who accomplished this feat in 2007 by scoring 36 runs. This record is on par with the records for One Day International (ODI) matches, which also stand at 36 runs, achieved by South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs and the USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra.
In addition to his formidable batting skills, Visser also took the wicket of Vanuatu batsman Ronald Tari, contributing to Samoa’s total of 174 runs, which they successfully defended to secure their second victory in the East Asia-Pacific qualifying tournament.
