During excavation work at Lynfrostgrunden in Nyborg, police in Funen (Fyns Politi) made a concerning discovery: several suspicious barrels containing an unknown substance have been found. This incident has triggered an immediate alarm and the establishment of a danger zone around the site. The police informed the public about the situation through the social media platform X.
The danger area includes prominent locations such as McDonald’s, Lidl, Circle K, Carl’s Jr., and Storebæltsvej. Access has been restricted from Slipshavnsvej in the east to BanegÃ¥rdsalleen in the west. Authorities are urging residents in the area to remain vigilant for any symptoms such as discomfort or headaches. Individuals experiencing these symptoms and who have been in the affected area are encouraged to contact their physician.
The police have requested that nearby residents evacuate the area and closely follow their instructions. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have pledged to provide updates as the situation develops. At 11:00 a.m., police reported that work was still in progress, which led to an expansion of the danger zone to include Nyborg Station. However, the closure of the station was lifted by 12:30 p.m.
A hazardous materials team, specially trained to handle dangerous chemicals, has also been called in. This expert unit arrived at the site around noon to assist with the investigation.
The situation has not only impacted the local area but also the nearby motorway, where exits 44 westbound and 45 eastbound at Nyborg have been closed. Efforts continue as police and emergency services work to identify and neutralize the potential threat.
