A recent incident in which a woman was gored by a cow along the Panoramaruten (Panorama Route) between Hobro and Bramslev Bakker has led to the decision to remove all cows from the area. The owner of the cows, Jørgen Bak Rasmussen, has made this decision after discussions with Mariagerfjord Municipality (Mariagerfjord Kommune) to capture the approximately 50 cows in the area. The action is prompted by concerns over further confrontations between cows and hikers, particularly as several calves are expected in the near future.
Initially, only the cow involved in the attack was removed, but it has now been decided to relocate the entire herd. Rasmussen believes that stray dogs in the area increase the cows’ protective instinct towards their calves, which can create dangerous situations for both animals and humans. The municipality and the livestock owner agree that clearer signage is necessary to ensure dogs are kept on leashes.
The Panoramaruten, which is temporarily partially closed, is expected to reopen once all cows have been removed, a process that may take a few days. The livestock owner has stated that horses will take over the grazing duties in the area moving forward. The scenic route, which stretches for about ten kilometers with views over Mariager Fjord, is certified as a “Premium Hiking Route” and is a popular destination in the region.
