A significant incident occurred Thursday afternoon at GAME Street Mekka in Viborg, Denmark, when a large section of the ceiling collapsed. According to Andreas Andersen, the duty officer at Mid and West Jutland Police (Midt- og Vestjyllands Politi), the police received the report at 12:56 PM.
“The incident resulted in four fourteen-year-old girls being struck by the fallen ceiling tiles. One of the girls sustained a laceration to her head and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, her injuries are not serious,” he stated to the Danish news outlet B.T.
The cause of the ceiling collapse is currently unknown. “We have closed the venue for now. Further investigations need to be conducted before it can be reopened. Fire authorities have also been on the scene to assess the risk of further collapses,” the duty officer reported.
On their Facebook page, GAME Street Mekka provided an update regarding the incident: “Due to a ceiling failure in our dance hall, unfortunately resulting in personal injury, we are unable to open GAME Street Mekka Viborg today, Thursday, August 22, as we need to conduct a thorough investigation of what has happened. We are doing everything we can to manage the situation so we can resume operations as quickly as possible.”
