Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is set to meet with her counterparts from Greenland and the Faroe Islands next week in Aalborg, Denmark, to strengthen ties within the Kingdom of Denmark. The agenda will focus on discussions aimed at improving and expanding relations among the three entities.
Initial talks will take place on Monday, where Frederiksen will meet with the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, Aksel V. Johannesen, and Greenland’s Premier, Múte Bourup Egede. The discussions will concentrate on both political and economic aspects, as well as their future developments within the Kingdom.
In a press release, Frederiksen stated, “Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland are three countries, three cultures, and three languages, but we are also part of a Kingdom built on mutual respect and solidarity. Our close connections are essential, especially in a time of war in Europe and increased security threats from Russia. I look forward to meeting with my colleagues and appreciate our trusting cooperation.”
Security and defense policy will also be on the agenda during Tuesday’s meeting of the Foreign, Security, and Defense Policy Contact Committee. Notable Danish ministers expected to attend include Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen, Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, and Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard. Their counterparts from Greenland and the Faroe Islands will also participate in the discussions.
The meetings in Aalborg are considered an important platform for enhancing collective efforts in both domestic and foreign policy among the three regions, each contributing uniquely to the Kingdom of Denmark.
