Nordsjælland Police are currently investigating a tragic right-turn accident that occurred in Lyngby on Friday. A 63-year-old female cyclist from Valby lost her life when she was struck by a truck at the intersection of Toftebæksvej and Sorgenfrigårdsvej. The accident took place as the woman was proceeding straight through the intersection while the truck was making a right turn.
Police were alerted to the accident at 11:25 AM and have since been working to clarify the precise sequence of events. So far, no new information has emerged as the investigation is still ongoing. An automotive inspector has been called to the scene to conduct technical examinations, which is standard procedure for serious traffic accidents. At the same time, witness statements are being collected, and the male driver is being questioned.
Right-turn accidents involving heavy vehicles colliding with cyclists have long been a focal point for both authorities and organizations. Despite various campaigns and measures, an increasing number of cyclists are still losing their lives in these accidents. Statistics from the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) show that 24 cyclists were killed in right-turn accidents between 2015 and 2020, with many more injured.
