Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. has withdrawn from the U.S. election campaign and urged his supporters to back Donald Trump. However, it is far from certain that this endorsement will provide Trump with the crucial boost needed in the battle for the presidency. According to Jacob Heinel Jensen, the U.S. correspondent for the Danish newspaper Berlingske, caution is advised against overinterpreting Kennedy’s support as a significant advantage for Trump. “One should not read too much into this,” Heinel Jensen explained to the Danish media outlet B.T. He points out that many polls indicate that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s supporters are neither particularly favorable toward Donald Trump nor Kamala Harris, the current Vice President. Therefore, it is an oversimplified analysis to expect that Kennedy’s approximate 5-6 percent support in swing states will automatically transfer to Trump. “It’s somewhat more complicated, and it is unlikely that this will become a substantial advantage for Trump,” Jensen added.
The pressing question now is why Kennedy has chosen to withdraw and endorse Trump. One possible explanation could be ambitions for a position in a potential future Trump administration, a prospect that has also been rumored. Another explanation could be that Kennedy’s political ideas and conspiracy theories align more closely with Trump’s ideology than with the Democratic Party, to which Kennedy originally belonged. Kennedy has gained notoriety for his controversial statements on topics such as vaccines and the impact of wireless internet on health.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy and son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, has thus concluded his campaign this time around, and whether his support will genuinely benefit Trump remains uncertain.
