Danish tunnel closed after traffic incident, police expect hours-long delay

On Saturday morning, the Guldborgsund Tunnel, which connects the islands of Falster and Lolland in Denmark, was closed in both directions while police investigated a traffic incident. The South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police (Sydsjællands og Lolland-Falsters Politi) announced on the social media platform X that work was underway related to the accident, leading to the temporary closure.

Authorities have urged drivers to use alternative routes to avoid the area surrounding the tunnel. Currently, there is no precise timeline for when the tunnel will reopen; however, police expect that the work will take several hours.

To facilitate traffic rerouting, police are directing motorists away from the area via exit 45 on Majbøllevej on Lolland and exit 44 on Nykøbingvej on Falster.
