Saturday afternoon and evening are expected to be wet for much of Denmark, with significant amounts of rain on the way. According to the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), the regions of Jutland and Funen should prepare for potentially severe weather conditions, including heavy downpours.
Particularly, northwestern Jutland is facing intense rain and thunderstorms, while the rest of Jutland may experience localized heavy showers. Mette Wagner, the on-duty meteorologist at DMI, emphasizes that the heavy rain and thunder could pose challenges in these areas. Funen and Zealand (Sjælland) will also see their share of rain, with western Funen likely to encounter local downpours and a similar risk of heavy rain in eastern Funen, western Zealand, and the islands of Lolland-Falster.
In the Copenhagen area, rainfall is expected to be more moderate with local showers but no imminent risk of heavy rain or downpours. “Eastern Zealand can expect rain showers, but it does not appear to be severe,” says Mette Wagner.
The severe weather will begin in western Denmark around 4 PM and will intensify up to midnight, particularly in the eastern regions. On eastern Funen and western Zealand, the risk of heavy downpours will continue from 10 PM and diminish around 4 AM Sunday morning.
Friday has offered warm and dry weather, which is expected to continue in the east. However, western Denmark will see more overcast conditions and lower temperatures as the rain moves in. Mette Wagner adds that Sunday will bring both showers and periods of sunshine.
Rainfall is classified as heavy when it measures between 25 and 35 millimeters over six hours. A downpour is characterized by at least 15 millimeters of rain within a half hour.
This update underscores the necessity of staying informed and taking necessary precautions, especially in the most vulnerable areas.
