Six men have been remanded in custody on suspicion of their involvement in a large drug case on the Danish island of Langeland. They are accused of receiving a total of 700 kilograms of cocaine in the waters near the island. The drugs were allegedly transported to Lohals Camping, a recreational area on Langeland. The details emerged during a preliminary hearing at the District Court in Odense, where the six men, aged between 24 and 44, all declared their innocence, with five of them using an Albanian interpreter.
The arrests took place early Saturday morning as part of a coordinated effort between Funen Police (Fyns Politi) and the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK). Lars Feldt-Rasmussen, Deputy Chief Inspector at NSK, expressed satisfaction with both the arrests and the seizure of the significant amount of cocaine. “With today’s operation, we have weakened the drug market, which is a major source of income for organized crime,” he stated in a press release.
The subsequent court proceedings were held behind closed doors, as the prosecution was granted a request to close the hearings to protect the ongoing investigation. As a result, there is limited information available regarding the defendants’ statements during the court session. However, it was revealed that the police suspect that there may be additional individuals involved who have not yet been arrested.
Funen Police announced on Saturday morning via the social media platform X that they were “massively present” in the area around northern Langeland and would remain on-site for the sake of the investigation. This effort is expected to continue for “some time yet,” according to the police department.
