Danish climate activists are set to travel to Stavanger, Norway, next week to participate in protests against the oil industry during the International Oil and Energy Fair, known as ONS 2024. This event attracts oil and energy companies, as well as related industries and organizations from around the globe.
Approximately 50 Danish activists from the Green Youth Movement (Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse) will join their Nordic counterparts, including renowned Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, to draw attention to the ongoing climate crisis. The activist group emphasized in a press release that they are facing a powerful global oil industry in Norway, which necessitates specific measures to be effectively heard.
Lea Wiggen Kramhøft, an activist from the Green Youth Movement, noted that they will utilize peaceful demonstrations and political strategies as their primary tools. However, she also mentioned that a number of disruptive actions are planned, without providing further details.
Security measures around the fair in Stavanger have been heightened due to potential threats linked to the current war between Russia and Ukraine. Norway’s Police Security Service (PST) will have an enhanced presence to ensure the safety of the expected thousands of visitors.
As the event approaches, the climate activists are determined to raise awareness about the issues surrounding fossil fuels and the urgent need for effective environmental policies on a global scale.
