Armed police arrest man in backyard of Danish couple’s home

On Monday afternoon in Viby, a suburb of Aarhus, the situation took a dramatic turn for Caspar Bang and Freja Kirk as they returned home from work to find their backyard filled with armed police officers. As they drove into the parking lot, Caspar noticed the first police car. Shortly thereafter, Freja saw a man running across the lawn and hiding in a bush in front of their balcony from their apartment window.

Caspar and Freja went out onto the balcony to get a closer look, but they were quickly instructed by the police on the scene to go back inside. “We saw two officers with their guns drawn trying to show where the man was hiding,” Caspar Bang explained. The police rapidly escalated their operation, and more officers arrived at the location, including one accompanied by a dog and another armed with a rifle.

After a short period of time, the police successfully apprehended the man, who was hidden in the bushes. “We could see them pulling him out from the bush without any pants on,” described Freja Kirk. The man, who was loudly screaming during the arrest, was removed from the scene without any further chaos.

Earlier that evening, around 6 PM local time, East Jutland Police (Østjyllands Politi) received a report about a person reportedly going around knocking on doors in the area, allegedly armed with a knife. “When a patrol met the man, he fled from them as they attempted to engage with him,” said duty officer Mikkel Møldrup. The police quickly cornered the man and arrested him.

The arrested individual, a 39-year-old man, will now have his case assessed by the police, which will determine the charges he will face. According to the authorities, no injuries occurred during the incident.
