A routine massage appointment for a 38-year-old man took an unexpected turn, leading to a prison sentence for the massage therapist on charges of rape. This incident occurred last August when the therapist operated from his private practice located in an apartment in Østerbro, Copenhagen.
During the treatment, the massage abruptly turned inappropriate when the therapist began performing oral sex on the client without his consent. The case was brought before the Copenhagen City Court (Københavns Byret), where the therapist was convicted of rape, despite his denial of guilt. The court, consisting of two lay judges and a legal judge, found him guilty of non-consensual sexual acts that categorically fell under the definition of rape, as argued by the prosecution.
The judge sentenced the therapist to three months in prison, conditional upon his completion of 80 hours of unpaid community service within eight months. The convicted individual has been given 14 days to decide whether he will appeal the ruling.
The prosecution also requested that the accused be barred from accepting clients for massage treatments in the future. However, the court did not find sufficient grounds for this request, since the convicted therapist did not consider massage therapy to be his primary source of income.
