Kamala Harris Raises Record $540 Million in Presidential Campaign in One Month

Vice President Kamala Harris has successfully raised an impressive $540 million in just over a month for her campaign to become President of the United States. This amount includes $82 million donated during the Democratic National Convention last week, according to her campaign team.

In an internal memo from Campaign Manager Jen O’Malley Dillon, it was emphasized that this substantial sum is a clear indication of Democratic engagement in Harris’ candidacy. “Just before Vice President Harris’ acceptance speech on Thursday evening, we officially surpassed $500 million,” O’Malley Dillon wrote in the memo, which was made public on Sunday. She added, “Immediately following her speech, we experienced our best fundraising hour since launch.” According to the campaign team, this is the highest amount ever raised by a presidential candidate within such a brief timeframe.

Nearly one-third of the contributions during the convention came from first-time donors. Approximately one-fifth of these first-time donors were young voters, and two-thirds were women—demographics that the campaign considers crucial for mobilizing support ahead of the November elections.

Additionally, Harris’ campaign is reporting a significant increase in volunteer support. During the convention, supporters signed up for nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts to assist the campaign.

Harris became the presidential candidate on July 21 after President Joe Biden stepped aside under pressure from his Democratic colleagues, who were concerned about his age following a misstep during a debate against Republican challenger Donald Trump on June 27.

The candidacy has generated momentum that is pressuring Trump and making it difficult for him to maintain media attention. While Trump is also a skilled fundraiser, it currently appears that he is being outpaced by Harris’ newly launched campaign. Earlier this month, Trump and his affiliated campaigns announced that they raised $138.7 million in July—less than what Harris secured at the opening of her campaign. By the beginning of August, the Trump campaign reported having $327 million in cash.

Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, will embark on a bus tour through Georgia this week to build support in a state that plays a critical role in the election scheduled for November 5.
