On Monday evening, a significant fire broke out in the roof of a building on Skarøgade, located in Østerbro, a neighborhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. The police received the report of the fire at 6:59 PM, prompting a swift and extensive rescue operation by the Capital Region’s Emergency Services (Hovedstadens Beredskab).
According to Police Inspector Michael Andersen, images from the scene show black smoke billowing over the area. Andersen stated that emergency services have initiated a large-scale evacuation as a precautionary measure, affecting seven stairwells, each with around 30 residents. The evacuated individuals will be transported away from the site via buses.
The area around Skarøgade has been cordoned off to facilitate the rescue efforts; however, nearby busy roads, including Jagtvej and Østerbrogade, will remain open to traffic. The Capital Region’s Emergency Services emphasize the importance of local residents adhering to the barriers in place to assist with the ongoing rescue operations. The situation is still evolving, and it remains unclear how extensively the fire has spread.
