On Monday afternoon, two police officers in Aarhus were threatened by a 38-year-old man armed with a knife. According to the East Jutland Police (Østjyllands Politi), the man approached the officers directly while brandishing the knife menacingly in front of him. The officers drew their service weapons and attempted to persuade him to drop the knife. Instead, the man retreated into a bush area, but a police dog was deployed and apprehended him, causing the man to relinquish the knife. He was subsequently arrested and handcuffed.
The detainee is scheduled to appear on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing (grundlovsforhør) at the Aarhus City Court (Aarhus Byret), where the prosecution plans to seek pre-trial detention based on threats made against public officials. The incident occurred around 5:45 PM in Viby J, after the police received a report indicating that the 38-year-old was behaving threateningly and inappropriately towards some acquaintances on Christian X’s Vej.
As the man holds foreign citizenship, the prosecution is requesting pre-trial detention under the Danish Return Act (hjemrejseloven).
